Piling frame work vessel Thomas
Van der Zalm Metaalindustrie has received the order to develop a piling frame onboard of the work vessel ‘Thomas’ of Van den Biggelaar Grond- en waterbouw. Vroegh-edc has performed the engineering of this project including 3D concept design, 3D detailed design up to almost 70 workshop drawings in order to fabricate the piling frame. The structural analysis are collectively executed with PT-Structural. The piling frame is fully in compliance with the NEN-EN 1990 and will be foreseen with CE-mark.

Highly accurate and safe positioning of piles
The piling frame will be utilised for safe and accurate positioning of foundation piles with a diameter varying from Ø900mm up to Ø1820mm and with a maximum weight of 30 tons. Soon the pile is clamped in the guidance wheels, it can move 500mm in and out and also to starboard and portside. Furthermore, it also has the function to fully open the arms in order to allow passage of the vibrating block to install the pile in one straight run without interruptions.
The piling frame exists of a mountable deck beam and lower beam which is mounted between the fender supports on the bow. Two arms can slide over those beams and provide the motion to starboard and portside. Adjustable guidance wheels are suspended to those arms and provide the motion in and out. Furthermore the piling frame is foreseen with access platforms and stairs for safe execution of manual works around the pile.
