Monumental Hemsterhuisbrug
The municipality of The Hague owns a beautiful monumental bridge called the ‘Hemsterhuis bridge’. The Hemsterhuis bridge is originally build in 1885 and is a bridge with rivet driven side beams, iron casted lanterns and railings and an iron casted ‘spider’ construction on which the formal bridge was rotating. During spring season of 2022 the bridge was dismounted and lifted away by the combination of Dura Vermeer and Van der Zalm Metaalindustrie in order to be fully restored and to be foreseen with a rotating mechanism which fulfils the current machinery rules and regulations.

Designing a replica of the main pivot point
For this restoration project Vroegh-edc has made amongst others a design for a replica of the original iron casted pivot point based on a 3D scan of the original parts. The ‘spider’ construction is designed as much as possible to suit the original design and is foreseen with brass bearings etc. in order to rotate the bridge in a smooth mater.
3D scan, design, manufacturing support and project management
Based on the drawings of Vroegh-edc, the molds are fabricated and are the various parts being casted. After the casting process, the loose legs of the spider construction have been made fit towards the central part and have the interfaces being machined for a smooth and strong connection between the various parts.
Besides the design of this monumental pivot point, Vroegh-edc also performed project management and manufacturing support of the casted parts.
