Crash barrier Oosterweel connection Antwerp.
A temporary crash barrier is required for the Oosterweel connection project near the city of Antwerp. Van der Zalm Metaalindustrie B.V. has been awarded the contract to manufacture and install this robust steel construction.

Heavy crash barrier
The crash barrier consists of 7 segments. Two of them are designed in a bend. The constructions are made with heavy tubular girders as a possible collision load by a ship is very high. The sections are connected to each other with a large flange connection. All sections are positioned on the tubular piles by means of a wedge. After positioning, the connection is secured with grout. The horizontal girders are pre-assembled to the constructions so that the lead time of the installation on location is shortened.
Close collaboration
Vroegh-edc B.V. provided the detailed design drawings and subsequently the workshop drawings were produced. The detailed design calculations were carried out in close collaboration with PT-Structural B.V. Together with the fabrication knowledge at van der Zalm Metaalindustrie B.V., this is a nice triangular collaboration that has led to an efficient execution of the project.
